China playing a fair game?

Slideshare, a startup for uploading and viewing powerpoint presentations, faced multiple Denial of Service attacks from China as reported here. Reason? The company refused to take down certain slides that were deemed inappropriate by China. Not too long ago, CNN faced the same situation.

Now, while blocking websites by governments is not a new thing, taking down a site with DoS attacks is totally inappropriate. Attacking democracy outside your borders is nothing less of being a goon.

Americans have mastered the art of creating waste

An interesting research worth reading on Earth Day can be found at CleanAir.Org which states how much waste americans create in their lifetime and overall how much americans consume:

Some interesting things to note:

  • If the entire world starts consuming food at the rate at which Americans do, we would need 4 earths to meet the demand.
  • America is home to 5% of the world’s population, yet it consumes 1/3 of the Earth’s timber and paper; making paper the largest part of the waste stream at 37.5% of the total waste stream.
  • In the U.S., 4.39 pounds of trash per day and up to 56 tons of trash per year are created by the average person.
  • Americans receive almost 4 million tons of junk mail every year. Most of it winds up in landfills.

Microsoft advertises on Google

This is weird. Microsoft is paying Google to advertise its new MESH. Also, while MESH launched with so much fanfare, why isn’t it a top search result for keyword MESH after 2 days?

MESH

RBS Ad

Funny ad by Royal Bank of Scotland. It goes something like this:
Two guys in a scene on a golf course, one an old looking golf pro, and another a rookie. Old guy says “You know, when I was your age, I could easily hit above that tree”, pointing to a nearby huge tree. The rookie tries to do the same, and fails by 6 feet or so. The old guy has a laugh and says “Ofcourse, when I was your age, that tree was only a few feet tall.”
